The client is a prominent owner, operator, and developer of large-scale, network-dense, and carrier-neutral as well as cloud-neutral multi-customer data centers throughout Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The Paris facility, which consists of 18 data halls over 6 floors, requires a comprehensive retrofit for 6 of them, representing 10 megawatts of IT power. The primary challenge is to implement this extensive upgrade while ensuring uninterrupted operations on all the other data halls and adhering to stringent energy efficiency standards.
As the general contractor, we will take a consultative approach, collaborating closely with our client from the initial design phase to project completion. Our strategy will focus on precision, efficiency, and sustainability, ensuring the operational integrity of the data centre throughout the retrofit process. Given the complexities of operating within a live environment, we will execute the retrofit without disrupting ongoing data centre operations. Our future-proofing methodology will keep the facility fully operational while integrating state-of-the-art infrastructure, setting new industry standards in resilience and energy efficiency.
Phased execution for seamless delivery
- Strip-out & steel structure installation: Safe decommissioning of outdated infrastructure and construction of additional steel support for new equipment, demolition & creation of partitions.
- New equipment installation: Integration of advanced power and cooling systems, including a redundant water-cooled and dry chiller infrastructure to enhance cooling production capacity and new power distribution streams.
- Commissioning & infrastructure services: Full system testing and commissioning to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
Precision in design with 3D scanning: To ensure accuracy in retrofitting, we will employ high-resolution 3D scanning, capturing detailed point cloud data. This will facilitate seamless BIM integration, optimising the design process while aligning with industry best practices.
Optimised energy efficiency & PUE reduction: A core focus of the project will be reducing Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). Our in-house engineering team will calculate PUE in compliance with ISO 30134 and implement an optimised energy strategy. Our approach will target a best-in-class PUE of 1.2, ensuring efficiency across varying IT loads (50% to 100%).
Key results include;
- Seamless integration of 10MW IT power without downtime.
- Enhanced cooling redundancy with a high-efficiency, water-cooled, and dry chiller system.
- Industry-leading PUE target of 1.2 achieved from 50% to 100% IT load.
- Fully operational facility throughout retrofit with zero disruptions.
- Futureproofed infrastructure designed to support evolving data centre demands.
