Design and fit-out solution of three new data halls
Our data center client powers, cools, protects, and connects the technology of the world’s well-known hyperscalers, cloud providers, and large enterprises. Enhancing the data center capacity planning and giving IT flexibility to provision workloads, our client required the design and fit-out solution of three new data halls providing a total of 1,600m2 of IT space and 4MW of IT power. The new colocation data halls will cohabit with the existing building and infrastructure while requiring the installation of new services to the power facility within a very tight schedule and bring sustainability elements to the project.
Our client appointed Equans Data Center, known as Bouygues Energies & Services, to design and deliver the project in Wales, including the fit-out, electrical, mechanical engineering, and commissioning. The additional data halls and power will provide resilient spaces.
A seamless project delivery
Equans Data Centers's multidisciplinary approach was central to the seamless project delivery while delivering high-performance and quality facility without affecting the operational data halls.
In pursuit of green credentials
Energy efficiency design plays a major role in achieving data center green credentials. Equans Data Centers translates the green ambition through data center design and fit-out strategy for energy-efficient equipment such as EC drives, efficient pumps, and fans. Plus, the mechanical design and installation include an adiabatic cooling system that enables free cooling methods to use natural phenomena to regulate temperature.
The electrical infrastructure incorporates Lithium-ion batteries in UPS applications striving towards the lowest level of carbon dioxide across the products and operations of the equipment. The project triumphs in size and resilience with six parallel generators for backup supply and N+N redundancy while enhancing the data center's resilience. Minimising the risk and protecting the client's assets, our engineers provided a sophisticated gas suppression system.
Thorough planning and coordination to bring data halls live
Our engineers carefully programmed the project to deliver it in a 3-phase approach. We work with the client and supply chain partners following a rigorous consultative planning process that allows for every contingency and build at speed. Our local team implemented various modelling strategies enabling thorough planning, monitoring, and control of all fit-out and new services installation – chilled water and electrical services while working within a live data center environment. Commissioning the new systems was a part of our strategic planning approach as we have to integrate these into the live systems serving existing data halls while building other project phases.
We comply with industry standards while designing and fitting out the data center infrastructure to ensure the data is both secure and highly available within the existing facility. Our data center design and installation conformed with CIBSE, ASHRAE, Water regulations, and other regulations throughout the project to ensure data center compliance.
