VIRTUS DATA CENTERS, a dynamic force in the UK’s data center landscape, is leading the charge in providing agile, high-performance, and flexible solutions for their customers. VIRTUS are an industry leader in hyper-efficient, ultra-high-density, and highly interconnected facilities. They required the design and build of a new colocation data center - LONDON7 - at their impressive Stockley Park Campus.. Built to scale for today’s modern data center customer, the facility was specified to offer an expansive 10,600m² net technical data center space and deliver 27 MW of IT load, making it the largest data center as part of their Slough campus.
As a designated strategic partner, Equans Data Centers, operating as Bouygues Energies & Services, we oversaw every facet of this ambitious project through a single point of contact to ensure seamless delivery on the highly resilient facility. With expertise in data center fit-out spanning - design, build, and commissioning comprising electrical and mechanical engineering, we designed and built the data center infrastructure to adapt to the changing needs. To protect the client data, we completed the site with the latest safety and security systems aligning with the industry standards to ensure the IT infrastructure is protected with authorised access only.
Allowing the subdivision for the dedicated power and cooling system for the data halls, we incorporated an innovative modular solution precisely configured to the client's technical specifications. The ‘Building block solution’ consisted of an off-site prefabricated steel frame assembled with the 9MW powermodule. The steel frame is inclusive of the underfloor plenum for all the interconnecting cabling and distributed air-cooling systems. The solution provided total clarity on cost at every point, as we focus on quality, accelerate delivery, and build in future-proof scalability.
While proceeding with the colocation base build of 4 data halls, the client instructed us to incorporate the hyper scaler ‘end-user’ design of power, telecoms, security, hot aisle containment & IT rack install, storage, and office. Upon receipt of the end-user detailed design, our experts delivered the additional fit-out workscollaborating with the end user. We ensured the delivery of the data center infrastructure in alignment with the initial capacity planning and provided control of all installations.
To match precise end-user requirements and deliver high-quality resilient data center build, we installed diverse structured fibre connectivity throughout the 4 data halls, along with resilient power bringing redundant supplies to all IT servers.
Enhanced security throughout, incorporated additional biometric access, and all communicating transatlantic with the end-user’s platforms.
We constructed the hot aisle containment in coordination with the rack layout and the ceiling install, creating that solid barrier to distribute hot air back into the cooling system while maintaining visibility around the end-users secure servers. We incorporated the end-users specifications into the main build and integrated them into the final testing and commissioning.
